I shall stay the way I am because I do not give a damn - Dorothy Parker.

I was born in small town Alberta, Canada but lived the entirety of my adult life in Toronto and then New York City. As a youngster I found an interest in art from my mother who in addition to raising four children and teaching school dabbled in painting her vision of photos of landscapes in magazines. Moving to Toronto in the late 1960s was the catalyst for embarking on a lifetime passion of collecting mostly abstract art from painters in Canada and the USA. This collection increased dramatically given extensive work travel beginning in 1995 to the former Soviet Union purchasing art from painters in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia while studying the long term health consequences of Chernobyl.

Chernobyl not only extended my collecting of art but also ended it. As a cancer epidemiologist I moved to New York City in 1995 accepting a position at Columbia University to become part of a team to assess health effects of Chernobyl. Having moved to NYC I soon started taking at least twice a week classes in drawing and painting at the Art Students League of New York and was fortunate to have as my most usual instructor by choice Mr. Ronnie Landfield.

Ronnie is considered to be one of the pre-eminent abstract impressionists in the USA. Through his teaching and mentorship he inspired and encouraged me to become a painter of abstract art thus ending my art collecting. He recognized my sense of colour and thus began a second career - painting initially only in oils and then acrylics abstract art adhering to colour theory and principles while also exploring the magnificence of colour. Colour, lots of colour.
